CHRISTMAS ISLAND CRANE UPDATE

General Notice 3-2017

CHRISTMAS ISLAND CRANE UPDATE

As a result of the wharf crane on Christmas Island breaking down, ASCL Michele has not been able to discharge cargo at the island.  The shipping line is waiting on advice from CI Ports as to when a crane will be available at Christmas Island to unload the ship.

Due to these circumstances ASCL Michele bypassed Christmas Island and sailed direct to Singapore.

ASCL Michele Voyage MZ1701 has now arrived in Singapore and discharged all Christmas Island cargo to a secure storage yard.

Once crane availability at Christmas Island has been confirmed the ship will make arrangements to return to Singapore, load the cargo and sail back to Christmas Island.

The cost of the deviation including the unloading, storage and reloading of cargo is considerable and is due to circumstances beyond the shipping lines control, as a result the shipping line has introduced a “Wharf Crane Deviation Surcharge” to recover these costs.

Therefore, a one off “Wharf Crane Deviation Surcharge” will be applied to all FCL and LCL cargo on Voyage MZ1701.

The FCL surcharge will be $1612 per TEU and the LCL surcharge will be $55 per cubic metre.

The surcharge will be applied to all freight invoices for MZ1701.
