Biosecurity Surcharge 2/9

New “BIOSECURITY SURCHARGE”

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, have now introduced a new FPOE (First Point of Entry) facility on West Island.

All cargo now arriving onto Cocos Island must now go through this FPOE facility on West Island.

This includes all cargo for both West and Home Island.

FPOE inspections will cause delays in delivery of containers to both islands, as well as additional costs for stevedoring/handling of the cargo.

As a result, the Cocos Island Cooperative will have to increase it’s stevedoring costs by $550.00/container, to recover these additional expenses. LCL and Break Bulk rates will also be increased accordingly.

The Biosecurity Surcharge will take immediate effect, from voyage BK2205.
